Stevenson-Weir/Southern, LLC, is a third-generation concrete, hauling, and building materials company forged from the partnership of two long-standing service leaders in our industry. The collaboration of Stevenson-Weir Concrete of upstate South Carolina with Southern Concrete Materials’ Eastern Division of North Carolina brings together both companies’ widespread resources to serve the Carolinas and, in particular, the Charlotte region, with an unmatched commitment to the Founders’ values of integrity and service excellence.

History

In 1948, shortly after American G.I.’s returned home from World War II, the Weir Fuel Company began selling home heating products like wood, coal, and oil in Great Falls, SC, to warm their growing families. After a few years, founders Mr. & Mrs. L.S. “Eel” Weir understood the future growth of the region and built a concrete batch plant in 1954 to meet its construction needs. This was the same year their youngest daughter and future second-generation owner, Martha, was born. In the mid-1970’s, newlyweds Martha Weir and Mike Stevenson returned home to work for the business and raise a family. In 1984, they purchased the redi-mix concrete and home oil delivery sections of the company and renamed it Stevenson-Weir Oil Company.

As the company grew under Martha and Mike’s leadership, it expanded into hauling materials, and briefly into septic tank fabrication, while ceasing its original heating oil delivery business. Stevenson-Weir incorporated in 2001, and soon after, added the couple’s sons, Stuart and Kendrick, to the family industry. In 2006, Stevenson-Weir opened its Rock Hill location and added brick, block, and mortar sales to its list of products and services. Daughter and daughter-in-law Shannon and Carol left their full-time careers in healthcare in 2007 to aid the expansion of this family business.

In 2021, we grew again with the addition of the Eastern Region of Southern Concrete Materials to the Stevenson-Weir family. The partnership created by Stevenson-Weir Southern adds 6 concrete plants and the assets of Charlotte Block Inc. to support the booming growth of the Charlotte area.

After 70 years of business and regional expansion, now under a third generation of family leadership, the same values remain: to operate Stevenson-Weir Southern with pride and maintain a focus on growth without compromising integrity or swaying from the values instilled by grandparents and nurtured by parents. And the future is bright – a fourth generation, eight girls, are often seen at work just as the prior two generations were raised.
